About Us

Our Vision

A world where breast cancer is no longer a disease that affects the length or quality of life of women.

Our Mission

To make a significant difference in the fight against breast cancer and breast cancer surgery through research that will focus on each woman and her individual experience.

About abreast

abreast is a breast cancer research charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of women with breast cancer undergoing breast cancer surgery.

Based in Bristol, but working with 30 NHS breast cancer research centres nationwide, the research work funded by abreast and other charities will enable patients and their surgeons to make informed, evidence-based choices about their breast reconstruction

Breast cancer will affect one in every eight women at some point in their lives. This devastating diagnosis strikes at the very heart of a woman's femininity and, for over one-third of them, the trauma is compounded by the loss of a breast.

Mastectomy often has a profound effect on body image, sense of self and overall quality of life. Although breast reconstruction goes some way to addressing these issues, there has been little research to support women or their surgeons in making important decisions regarding the type and timing of reconstruction that may be right for them.

abreast aims to change this.
